April may seem a long way off, but we’re really excited about our very first Charity Golf Day on 1st April.
It might be a golf day but it’s really about teeing off the start of our fundraising for the Sarah Jayne Charitable Trust, set up by our founder Paul in honour of his sister Sarah Jayne.
The event will take place on 1 April which is slightly unfortunate given the day’s association with fooling around! Whilst we take our fundraising very seriously, we don’t take ourselves too seriously so do feel free to shower us with April Fool’s jokes on the day…
As a team of both golfing aficionados and amateurs, we’re not expecting a Tiger Woods worthy performance (although Tiger if you’re interested, I’m sure we could squeeze you in), but a basic understanding and interest in golf is probably a good start.
And if golf isn’t your cup of tee (sorry!) there are lots of sponsorship opportunities available, so you can still get involved.
The details
When
Tee times from 10 am to 12 pm, Friday 1 April 2022.
Where
The Bristol Golf Course, St Swithens Park, Blackhorse Hill, Almondsbury, BS10 7TP
(We may be biased as we’re based in Bristol but the views across the Severn Estuary are simply stunning.)
Cost
A minimum donation of £50 per person with 100% of proceeds going to the Sarah Jayne Charitable Trust.
Format
Relaxed 18-hole Better Ball Stableford in teams of 4. Even “better” because the day starts with a bacon roll and coffee. Players of all abilities are welcome and there’ll be prizes for the best team score, nearest the pin, and longest drive.
Sponsorship
We’d love to fill our banners with lots of lovely local sponsors. You can sponsor a hole from £50 -£100 and you’ll get shout-outs on social media, coverage on the day itself and a warm feeling from helping our three wonderful charities.
Filling ‘holes’ in charity funds
Charities have had it particularly tough over the last couple of years and fundraising has been heavily compromised. It’s one of the reasons we set up the Sarah Jayne Charitable Trust. And it’s why we’ve chosen three small and local charities to support. So we can feel like we’re making a real difference.
Here are just some of the holes that we’re hoping to fill:
Designability – The Wizzybug
Last year we raised enough money through the Trust to fund a brand new Wizzybug wheelchair. One of these highly specialised wheelchairs, designed for little ones under the age of 5, costs £4,850. With your donation or ‘hole’ sponsorship, we’d love to raise enough money to pay for another Wizzybug to give a disabled child fun and freedom of movement.
Wiltshire Mind – Trauma Counselling
The last 2 years have been traumatic for everyone. And for some, much more so than others. With this in mind, we’ve helped Wiltshire Mind to launch a brand new trauma counselling service for people who are struggling to cope with trauma. A day of counselling costs £500 and could help someone in Wiltshire navigate the toughest time of their life.
Incredible Kids
The work that Incredible Kids do really is incredible. And we’ve seen first-hand the difference that their play sessions make to families with children that have additional needs.
We’ve been lucky enough to help out with their Christmas party the last couple of years and we’ve managed to raise enough money to fund additional play sessions too. A play session costs £800 and can benefit up to 75 families so your donations will be making a huge difference to lots of local families in need.
