Last month, we shared plans with you for our latest charity challenge. Back in July, when the challenge was just under two months away, it felt like we had loads of time. Now, all of a sudden, it’s less than two weeks away. We’re not quite sure how that’s happened but it’s starting to feel very real. Like we have a mountain to climb. Or three!
As well as attempting to climb three mountains in 24 hours, we’ve also set ourselves the mountainous challenge of raising £10,000.
The good news is that we’re now more than halfway there. Thanks to your support, we’ve raised just over £5,000. This is enough to pay for a brand new Wizzybug wheelchair to change a child’s life, empowering another mini adventurer.
Sarah-Jayne, the inspiration behind the Sarah Jayne Charitable Trust, spent much of her life in a wheelchair, so it’s wonderful to be able to support local charities like Designability in their quest to give disabled children more freedom.
And whilst the 3 Peaks Challenge will be gruelling, we’re well aware of our privilege in being able to take on these three strenuous climbs.
Starting at Ben Nevis in Scotland, followed by Scafell Pike in England and ending at the top of Snowdon in Wales, our challenge is to complete all three peaks in 24 hours. The trek is 23 miles in total and we’ll be reaching heights of 4,413 feet with a total ascent of 3,064 metres.
The numbers don’t mean much at the moment but when we’re climbing, we’ll certainly be feeling them!
“The training has been tough. I’ve been practising ascents and descents with a fully weighted rucksack in the rain and wind and I’m hoping for better weather for the challenge itself! I know it’ll be a hard slog but when I think about the difficulties faced by some families in our local community, I’m determined to smash our target and improve local lives.” – Matt Dixon, Financial Planner.
As we ramp up our training in the lovely British summer wind, rain, and shine, we need your help to reach the fourth and final mountain; our £10k fundraising target.
Sponsor us by the peak, by the mile or by the hour to help under-represented and underfunded charities in our local area. Or simply give what you can to help us reach the top of our target.
You can sponsor the team on our dedicated 3 Peaks Challenge fundraising page or simply text SARAH to 70085 to donate £5.
And for those of you keen to follow our progress, we’re starting at 4 pm on Thursday 2nd September and we aim to have climbed all 3 peaks by 4 pm on Friday 3rd. Watch out for our updates on social media as we conquer each mountain and milestone. See you on the other side!
