What is a SSAS?
A Small Self-Administered Scheme (SSAS) is a type of defined contribution pension scheme which an employer can run for up to 11 members. The primary aim of a SSAS is to provide an income for its members in retirement.
A SSAS is no new kid on the block; they are tried and trusted, having been around since the 1970s. At Hartsfield, we have a vast amount of experience in setting up this type of scheme.

5 benefits of a SSAS
Control over your investments
SASSs have wider investment powers than more traditional pension schemes. A SSAS can own your business premises, or, in some circumstances, lend money back to your business or buy shares in it.
Tax-efficiency
Small-Self Administered Schemes are extremely tax-efficient. Your SSAS will not pay Income Tax or Corporation Tax on any income it receives or on the growth of the assets it holds. Contributions made by your company will usually receive Corporation Tax relief.
Flexibility
Small Self-Administered Schemes offer greater flexibility and wider investment options than other pension schemes.
Allows you to purchase property
You can use your SSAS to buy a commercial property and lease it back to your company, allowing you to take advantage of tax efficiencies here, too.
Pension consolidation
As well as contributions, a SSAS can receive transfers in from other pension schemes. However, you should always take regulated financial advice before transferring existing pensions into a SSAS to ensure that you do not lose any entitlements.
